Tavarua Island Resort, Fiji.

Tavarua Island Resort, surrounded by the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Powerful swells produce the world famous waves like Cloudbreaks, peeling onto reefs within easy reach of this idyllic little resort. New rules have opened access to all of Fiji’s reefs, so Tavarua guests can enjoy even more great breaks and take advantage of prevailing wind and swell conditions – see Fiji Surf.

Facilities

Tavarua Island Resort guests stay in private bungalows that are a modern version of the traditional Fijian bure. Set in lush gardens, the bure are made of hardwood with thatched roofs, natural finishes and tropical decor. Each one has a private tiled bathroom, two comfortable queen beds, a day bed, air conditioning, louvered windows, ceiling fans, mini-bar, and a large beach side verandah for relaxing, watching the sunset or taking in the lush island foliage. Two larger “Sunrise Bure”, accommodate four adults in two bedrooms.

Tavarua Island Resort bar/restaurant has an epic view over the swimming pool, across the inner reef and out to Restaurants – one of the best waves in the world.

Happy Hour begins each day at four, with guests sampling appetizer platters by the pool and on the deck. The three main meals are served buffet style, all you can eat, with guests mingling at sociable shared tables. Our bar is fully stocked with an international array of wines, beers, liquors and mixed drinks that are unique to the island.

Tavarua Surfing

The biggest surf hits March through November. For the cleanest, least crowded waves, the wet season (December-February) is excellent. March- April-May and September-October-November can get glassy conditions with south swells.

Just south of the resort, world-famous Cloudbreak is a powerful, hollow left hander with three main sections that can link up for a screaming, 200-yard ride. A challenging wave at its regular 4 to 6 feet, it’s truly excellent for experienced surfers at 8 feet, and has been ridden by pro surfers up to 18 feet.

Closer in is Restaurants, a left reef break that wraps around the island. It’s smaller with perfectly shaped tubes – a skate park in the sea. Other waves around the island include Tavarua Rights, Kiddie Land and Swimming Pools.

Tavarua Island resort guests can also enjoy more great breaks like Namotu Left, Wilkes Pass and Desperations. With this range of surf breaks there’s nearly always a spot to suit the prevailing wind and swell conditions.

Activities

As well as world class surfing, Tavarua Island Resort offers a range of watersports from kite-surfing, sail-boarding and stand-up paddling to unsurpassed diving and snorkelling. There’s fantastic fishing for mahi mahi, wahoo, or yellow fin tuna, and we’ll prepare the catch for your dinner. Go kayaking in the lagoon, try a spot of tennis, a fun game of volleyball or test your skate skills at our own skate ramp.

When you need to relax you can chill by the pool, stroll on the beach, play ping pong or shoot some pool. Indulge yourself with a spa treatment and massage, or get centred with some yoga. Use our fitness facilties to loosen up after a day in the water, or get ready for tomorrow’s surf session. And don’t forget to shop for some Fijian style surf wear and souvenirs at the resort boutique!
