Macaronis Resort, Mentawais

Macaronis Resort, the classic Mentawais surf resort with easy access to epic surf from a fantastic location. The 16 brand-new guest rooms feature private balcony, brilliant views, comfortable queen or twin bed accommodation, air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom. There’s also a new free-form swimming pool, massage pavilion, and landscaped tropical garden setting.

Macaronis Resort is situated on the edge of picturesque Silabu salt water lagoon, just across the bay from legendary Macaronis wave. Tidal movement and currents keep the lagoon clean and cool to swim in, with magnificent sunsets over the water every evening.

Macaronis’ main building is a large, circular, three-level structure with scenic views of the bay and the lagoon. On ground level, the expansive bar, lounge and restaurant area have been remodelled with the same tropical ambiance and fun atmosphere that guests enjoy so much. It features a great outlook over the gardens to the beach, and poolside BBQ area. The large, lagoon-style swimming pool is surrounded by sun lounges and shaded with palm trees, set in a tropical garden with a massage pavilion nearby.

The Restaurant provides daily buffet breakfast and lunch with flexible meal times to suit the needs of surfers, plus a set menu dinner service every evening. Cuisine is a combination of Asian and Western favourites, with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, plus seafood from local waters – try a fishing trip and have your catch prepared by the chef for your dinner!

The Bar offers a variety of beers, snacks and mixed drinks with a big screen TV – satellite coverage includes live international sports, international news and entertainment channels. We also have a stock of surf movies, plus facilities to play your own footage of the day’s surfing adventures. The stereo system in the bar includes an ipod docking station, so bring along your ipod and share your own music selection.

On the second level, Guest Rooms can be arranged with twin beds or a queen size bed. The comfortable, air-conditioned rooms have their own en-suite bathroom with modern toilet and hot/cold shower.  Each room has its own coded-keypad access plus safety deposit box, flat-screen TV, DVD player, in-house telephone, clothes storage, work desk with Wifi, private balcony with outdoor furniture, sea breezes and views over the lagoon or the tropical gardens.

The third level lookout gives a panoramic view over Macaronis Bay and the surrounding coastline, ideal for scoping out swell size and conditions. Binoculars are available and there’s an in-house camera set up shooting live surf footage to a dedicated TV channel in your bedroom. An Information Board in the bar provides swell and weather forecasts, and information about speedboat tours and their surfing schedules. There’s also Ding Repair for damaged surfboards, and a stock of spare surf boards in case you need to loan or hire one.

Wireless Hot Spot Internet (up to 512 kbps) is available over all resort grounds.

As well as surfing, try fishing in the lagoon (the resort chefs will prepare your catch), game fishing, canoeing, snorkeling or spearfishing. Two single sea kayaks and a stand up paddle board are available for paddling over to Fish Fingers Beach or paddling through the mangroves and forests around the lagoon.

Guided Tours of Silabu and Betamonga villages give guests an opportunity to meet and trade with the locals and gain an appreciation of their culture. Guests may also rent a motorbike with driver to explore the back tracks of North Pagai Island and visit various other remote villages.

A quiet walk takes you to Fish Fingers Beach – a beautiful beach for couples, safe for kids, with a small wave that’s ideal for beginners learning to surf.
