Telos 101

A surf resort situated on Sipika island in the 101 islands of the Telos island chain, south of Nias and North of the Mentawais in North Sumatra, Indonesia.  For surfing pristine, remote and uncrowded perfect waves with some serious game fishing thrown in…..all in tropical paradise…come to Telos 101

There are plenty of waves in the Telos islands with some fairly isolated and not well known, so for the opportunity of surfing in tropical solitude with just your mates a Telos 101 trip could be it for you.

Unlike the Mentawais where there is a high percentage of lefts, Telos offers an equal number of lefts & rights catering for all standards from world class barrels to fun deep water shoulders.  There are a number of breaks easily accessible to Telos 101 that work on a range of swell sizes and wind direction so there is generally somewhere to suit everyone; let Telos 101 cater to your needs and make your dream wave a reality.

Resort Boats

When it comes to accessing a region’s surf breaks comfortably and quickly there isn’t much more important feature than the surf transfer boats operated by an island surf resort. At Telos 101 they have the job covered with two purpose built surf transfer boats:-

  • Fully equipped with FURUNO Radar and VHF radio
  • GPS coordinated EPIRB registered to Australia, Satellite phone
  • Fully enclosed large cabin capable of seating 6 pax, rear deck seating 9 pax
  • All safety gear as required by Australian Commercial Standards ie flares, life jackets, fire extinguishers
  • Long range (900 litre) fuel tanks
  • Generator set providing 220 Volt power
  • 300 litre Fresh water tank with off hose
  • Stereo front and rear
  • Game fishing rods/holders/live bait tank

  • Custom built in 2015, 9 metre vessel powered by twin 175 HP Suzuki 4 strokes capable of 40 knots

  • Equipped with VHF radio, GPS coordinated EPIRB registered to Australia, Satellite phone
  • All safety gear as required by Australian Commercial Standards i.e. flares, life jackets, fire extinguishers
  • Long range (750 litre) fuel tanks

Our 7 metre covered poly runabout.  Powered by a new 60hp Suzuki, this runabout is generally used to do odd jobs (including a sneaky inshore troll around the reefs for prize table fish) by the staff. But RASTA is certainly not above being used for a quick strike mission for up to 4 surfers to nearby breaks.

Telos 101 has three large beachfront villas, each just ten metres from the water’s edge and elevated 2.7 metres off the ground to maximise views and air circulation!

All villas have four queen size beds and a large private 3 x 8 metre deck facing east overlooking the water, complete with hammocks and tables and chairs to capture the spectacular sunrises to be had or just chilling out between sessions.

All beds come with mosquito nets, individual fans, bedside tables and lamps with plenty of room to set your gear out.

All villas have a 3m x 3m large bathroom containing western toilet, shower and vanity unit.

Underneath each of the freestanding villas are individual board racks, undercover clothes lines and outside showers at the foot of both staircases to rinse off after surf prior to going upstairs into your villa.

In 2020 there is also the option of staying in one of the new Luxury Villas perfect for couples and families. Designed and constructed by the creators of “Nihiwatu” in Sumba they have dehumidifiers and are completely sealed (no need for mozzie nets); and with stylish furniture imported from Bali make the Telos 101 Luxury Villas essentially a quality unparalleled in Telos.

A westerly aspect with absolute beach frontage captures the stunning sunsets and only 50 metres to the infinity pool. The Luxury Villas accommodate up to four people in two bedrooms per villa with a lounge and external and internal showers and toilets with large external circular two person bath.

The main building elevated 3.2 metres off the ground overlooks the water; it’s is a large open space area of 15 x 12 metres providing al fresco dining and lounging at its best! There’s the dining area; fully stocked bar; lounge room with plenty of couches, a large screen television with a massive selection of DVDs, a stereo and iPod dock/stereo guaranteed to keep things lively. The perfect place at night to enjoy a cold beer or spirit whilst watching the days surf pics or a movie.

There’s also the volleyball court or table tennis for those who want anything more active than relaxing after a day’s surf.

The chef is from Padang and has worked extensively within the surf industry through both the Mentawais and Telos islands. He will mix the lunch and dinner menu up with quality local dishes whilst throwing in a traditional lamb roast for a Sunday lunch on occasion. Banana pancakes through to toast and cereal are on the menu for breakfast and there is a coffee machine for those who need quality caffeine starts in the morning. Any special dietary requirements can be catered for on request.

The 101 Family

The 101 Family consists of manager Michel Capovilla who has worked for many years in the Telos and Mentawai islands as manager/surf guide plus local staff from Padang, Nias and the surrounding islands. All crew members have extensive experience in the surf hospitality industry and are always looking to improve the resort and their own personal skills often through undertaking courses to gain valuable accredited qualifications.
